Lyme Disease Awareness Month

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]tickonleafIt’s Lyme Disease Awareness Month and Popcare+ is the place to turn to for education on the dangers of this tick-transmitted disease, and the steps to prevent it.

According to a recent report from the United States Center for Disease Control (CDC), “as many as 300,000 persons in the United States might be diagnosed and treated for Lyme disease each year,” and, “approximately 95% of confirmed Lyme disease cases are reported from 14 states in the upper Midwest, New England, and the mid-Atlantic states.”

Avoid ticks in tall grasses, bushes, and wooded areas.  When hiking wear sleeved shirts, tall socks, and stay in the middle of the trail.  Ticks aren’t just found in the woods, so kids and adults should also insure that ticks do not embed themselves, or “bite,” even after being in their own backyard.

Everyone should do “tick checks” after being outdoors.  Use a mirror to check your body, or check your child’s body behind the knees, under the arms and armpits, in and around the ears, in hair, inside the bellybutton, between the legs, and around the waist.

Ticks can easily be removed with fine-tipped tweezers and a steady hand, and further instruction on tick removal is available from the CDC.  Stop into your local Walk in Clinic, like Popcare+ for guidance on how to properly do a tick check, or have a tick quickly removed.  Popcare+ also offers easy access to any further testing that may be required.

If you feel like you’ve developed a rash or fever within several weeks of being in a tick-infested area, or have any questions regarding ticks removal or Lyme Disease, take a moment to call or drop by Popcare+ or your local Urgent Care facility to have your questions answered and receive the proper care and/or testing right away.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”593″ border_color=”grey” img_link_target=”_self” img_size=”full” css=”.vc_custom_1432917654934{margin-top: 10px !important;}”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
